June 2006 Hikes

Now that the days are getting longer and warmer, most of our hikes will begin at 9 AM. Check the schedule below for each hike’s start time.  

Most Thursdays S.T.P.S. has a work party.

Volunteers are always welcome.

Thurs., June 1- S.T.P.S. Monthly Meeting. 7PM-9PM.
Meet at Southampton Town Hall basement meeting room, Southampton. All are welcome. Glorian Berk, 631-283-2638.

 

Sat., June 3- S.T.P.S. 20th Anniversary Celebration & National Trails Day.
4PM-8:30 PM. (6 PM BBQ) at Nova’s Ark Project, 60 Millstone Road, Water Mill. Activities include sheep shearing, blacksmithing, falconry, polo demonstrations, pony rides, gully hike and much more. Tickets are $50 for members; $60 for non-members and $25 for children under 10.

Sun., June 4- Long Pond Greenbelt North Loop. 9AM-11AM.

Meet at the Mashashimuet Park parking lot in Sag Harbor. Hike 5 miles through this beautiful and unique glacial moraine. Moderate pace.

Sat., June 10- Two For One Trek.   9AM-11:30 AM.

Hike # 1: Tuckahoe Swamp with its bumper Skunk Cabbage crop. Hike # 2: Nature Conservancy’s Big Woods Trail.

Meet on Millstone Brook Road, opposite Millstone Lane, Southampton.  4 miles at a moderate pace.

Sun., June 11- Trout Pond/Clam Island Passage. 9AM-11AM.

Meet at Trout Pond parking lot on Noyac Road (across from Mill Road). Moderately paced 4-mile hike around historic Trout Pond and Clam Island.

Sat., June 17- Laurel Valley Trek. 9AM-11AM.

Meet at the kiosk on Deerfield Road in Noyac (across from Deerwood Path). Moderate 3-mile hike through wooded knolls and blooming (we hope!) laurel filled ravines. Some hills.

Sun., June 18- Elliston Park Exploration. 9AM-11AM.

Meet at the park entrance on Millstone Brook Road in Southampton. See Big Fresh Pond, Scallop Pond and Wolf Swamp with

Howard Reisman. 631-283-5376.

 

Sat., June 24- Long Pond Greenbelt Mid-Loop. 9AM-11AM.

Meet at the South Fork Natural History Museum parking lot on Bridgehampton Tpk., Bridgehampton. Moderate paced 4-mile hike through a beautiful grassland and forest.

Sun., June 25- Barcelona Neck Trek.
9AM-11:30 AM, Meet at Sag Harbor Golf Club (off Rte. 114), Sag Harbor.
Moderate 5 miles with water views of Sag Harbor.
