March 2005 Hikes

 

Thurs., March 3 - STPS Monthly Meeting. 7PM-9PM. Our next meeting will be held in the lower conference room of Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road.

 

Sat., March 5 – Laurel Valley Excursion. 9:30AM-11:30PM.

Meet at the kiosk located on Deerfield Road in Noyac across from Deerwood Path (North Side Hills). Fast-paced hike through wooded knolls & laurel-filled ravines, hilly terrain.

Sun., March 6 – Long Pond Greenbelt Ramble. 10AM –12:30PM.

Meet at Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor.  Moderately paced hike with spectacular views of Long Pond, Little Long Pond, and Crooked Pond.

Sat., March 12 – Poxabogue Pond to Otter Pond Traverse. 10AM-12:30PM. 

Meet at the Poxabogue County Park entrance on Old Farm Road in Bridgehampton just south of the RR trestle. Moderately paced hike.

Sat., March 12 - Monthly Trail Work Outing. Every second Saturday, we will have a members’ trail work outing.  Call several days in advance and Ken will describe the work and give directions for where we will meet.

Sun., March 13 – Trout Pond /Clam Island Perambulation.  10AM-12:30PM. 

Meet at Trout Pond parking lot on Noyac Road across from Mill Road for an easy, moderately paced 3-4 mile hike around historic Trout Pond and Clam Island County Park with views of Morton Wildlife Refuge.

Thurs.,March 17-"May You Have Warm Words For a Cold Day" St. Patrick's Day Walk With a Blessing and a Poem or Two.   1PM-3PM.

Meet at Mashasimuet for an easy-paced journey through the GREENbelt...of course.

Sat.,March 19 – Narrow Lane Cleanup. 8AM-9AM. Help cleanup the litter from our adopted road. Meet on Narrow Lane, and east corner of Bridgehampton Turnpike. Bring gloves.

Sat.,March 19- Mulvihill Preserve Loop. 10AM-Noon.

Meet on Brick Kiln Road across from Bridge Hill Lane, 3/10 mile north of Scuttlehole Road, Bridgehampton.  Explore our newest trail.  Unique and varied terrain with ponds and streams. Moderately paced 4-5 mile hike.

Sun., March 20 – Gems south of the Highway, Fowlers Preserve and Ruth Wales DuPont Preserve. 10AM-Noon. 

Meet at intersection of Narrow Lane and Wickapogue Road in Southampton. Moderately paced hike with views of Heady Creek, Shinnecock Bay and many waterfowl. Wear waterproof shoes.

Sat.,March 26-"Dancing with the Daffodils". 10:00AM-12:30PM.

Meet at the Morton Preserve on Noyak Road west of Trout Pond.   Join us for our annual tradition and the first hike of Spring. Moderate walk.

Sat.,March 26 - Full Moon Hike to Sag Harbor Bay. 6:30PM-8PM.

Meet on Swamp Road approximately ½ mile east of Route 114, Sag Harbor. Moderately paced hike with views of Cedar Point, Mashomack and Northwest Harbor. Bring a flashlight and dress warmly.

Sun.,March 27 - Elliston Park Trek. 10AM-Noon.

Meet at the Park entrance on Millstone Brook Road in Southampton Moderately-paced hike with views of Wolf Swamp and Big Fresh Pond.

Sun., March 27 - Annual Easter Egg Hunt.  11:30AM.

Meet at Poxabogue Park south of the railroad trestle on Old Farm Road in Bridgehampton. Children 8 years and under search for hidden eggs along the trail. Bring basket.
