February 2005 Hikes

 

Tues,Feb.1 - STPS Monthly Meeting. 6PM-8PM. Our next meeting will be held in the lower conference room of Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road. Meet Ron Carter, the new Community Preservation Fund Property Code Enforcement Officer.

 

Thurs.,Feb.3 – STPS Annual Dinner & Raffle. 6PM.

Sat.,Feb.5 – Trout Pond Surprise. 10AM-12:30AM. Meet at Trout Pond parking lot on Noyac Road across from Mill Road for a moderately paced hike to the unknown.

Sun.,Feb.6 - Long Pond Greenbelt Trek. 10AM-12:30PM. Meet at Mashashimuet

Park in Sag Harbor. Moderately paced hike around Crooked Pond and back. See the Truman Capote stone.

Sat.,Feb.12 – Monthly Trail Work Outing. Every second Saturday, we will have a members’ trail work outing.  Call several days in advance and Ken will describe the work and give directions for where we will meet.

Sat.,Feb.12 – Whiskey Hill Loop. 10AM-11:00AM. Meet on Mill Road off Lopers

Path East, Bridgehampton. Fast-paced 11/2 mile hike with ocean views from the top of the Ronkonkoma moraine with two kettlehole ponds and an enormous glacial erratic along the way.

Sun.,Feb.13 – Long Pond Greenbelt Traverse. 9AM-Noon. Meet at Mashashimuet

Park in Sag Harbor for a Fast-paced hike to SOFO and back. Hike through grasslands & oak forest with views of Crooked Pond, Long Pond  & Deer Drink.

Sat.,Feb.19  Bluffs, Blowouts and the Rising Dunes on Barcelona Neck. 10:00AM-12:00PM. Meet at Meet at Sag Harbor Golf Club parking lot on Barcelona Point Road off of Route 114, Sag Harbor. Moderately brisk 4-5 mile hike with views of Sag Harbor Bay, Northwest Creek and Harbor, Cedar Point Park, and Mashomack Preserve. Moderately paced hike.

Sat., Feb.19- Narrow Lane Cleanup. 8AM-9AM. Help cleanup the litter from our adopted road. Meet on Narrow Lane, and east corner of Bridgehampton Turnpike. Bring gloves.

Sun.,Feb.20 – Quogue Wildlife Center Trail Loop. 10AM-Noon. Meet at entrance on Old Country Road, 1 mile west of County Road 104 in Quogue. See wildlife up close and a pond with many waterfowl.

Thurs.,Feb.24  Mid Winter Meander through Mulvihill Loop. 1:00PM-3:00PM. Meet at Mashashimuet Park in Sag Harbor.  Marvel at the diversity of this morainal woodland. Moderately-pace hike.

Sat.,Feb.26 - Elliston Park Trek. 10AM-Noon. Meet at the Park entrance on

Millstone Brook Road in Southampton Moderately-paced hike with views of Wolf Swamp and Big Fresh Pond.

Sun., Feb. 27 - Hubbard Creek/Sears Bellows Traverse. 10AM-Noon. Meet on Red

Creek Road in Hampton Bays, 100 yards from Route 24.  Fast-paced hike with numerous water views, a waterfall and several ponds. See Black Duck Lodge.
