Sat.,Oct.2 – Wonder of the Woods Hike. 9:30AM-11:30AM. Meet at Mashashimuet Park, Sag Harbor and walk the Paumanok Path to Mulvihill trail in silence for 2 hours of peace. You may observe and listen to things you missed on previous walks. Vernal ponds, erratics, woodland plants and trees and other mysteries surround you.

Sun.,Oct.3 – Flanders Traverse. 10AM-Noon. Meet on Red Creek Road in Hampton Bays, 100 yards from Route 24.  Moderately-paced hike with numerous water views, a waterfall and several ponds. See Black Duck Lodge.

Thurs.,Oct.7 - STPS Monthly Meeting. 7PM-9PM. Our next meeting will be held in the lower conference room of Southampton Town Hall, 116 Hampton Road.

Sat.,Oct. 9 – Celebration of the Long Pond Greenbelt. 10AM.  Meet at the end of Round Pond Lane, Sag Harbor.  Join the Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt for free, informative hikes including a History Hike led by Tony Garro. Nature exhibits from local environmental groups and events for children. Refreshments provided by FLPG.

Sun.,Oct. 10 - Whiskey Hill Loop. 10AM-11:30AM. Meet on Mill Road off Lopers Path East, Bridgehampton. Moderately-paced 1 1/2 mile hike with ocean views from top of moraine with two kettlehole ponds and an enormous glacial erratic.

Thurs.,Oct. 14-Bike hike....Through open farmland to Sagg Beach on the ocean. On a clear day you can see forever. Leave Mashasimuet at 9:30 for a moderately-paced, 6 miles to the beach. After a rest we will come back 6 miles on a different route. 3 hours. Leader: Joe Lane, 631-725-3942.

 

Saturday, Oct. 16 and Sunday, Oct. 17 – Join Southampton Trails Preservation Society & East Hampton Trails Society for our Annual South Fork Trails Weekend:

 

Sat.,Oct. 16 - Fair Hills to Mulvihill Preserve & The Great Swamp. 10AM-12:30PM. Meet on Brick Kiln Road across from Bridge Hill Lane, 3/10 mile north of Scuttlehole Road in Bridgehampton.  Explore unique and varied terrain with ponds and streams. Moderately paced 4-5 mile hike.

Sun.,Oct. 17 – West Neck Hill Inaugural Trail Hike. Meet at Elliston Park on Millstone Brook Road in Southampton. Views of Wolf Swamp, Big Fresh Pond and our newest trail system.

Sat.,Oct.23 – Narrow Lane Cleanup and Hike through Poxabogue Park. 8AM-9AM. Help us cleanup the litter from our adopted road. Meet on Narrow Lane, and east corner of Bridgehampton Turnpike. Bring gloves.

9:30-11:30 Meet at Poxabogue Park for a fast paced hike in the beautiful Long Pond Greenbelt.  See numerous ponds.  Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-537-0660.

 

Sun.,Oct.24 - Barcelona Neck Excursion.  10AM-12:30PM. Meet at Sag Harbor Golf Club parking lot on Barcelona Point Road off of Route 114, Sag Harbor. Moderately brisk 4-5 mile hike with views of Sag Harbor Bay, Northwest Creek and Harbor, Cedar Point Park, and Mashomack Preserve.

Sat.,Oct.30 - Elliston Park Trek. 10AM-Noon. Meet at the Park entrance on Millstone Brook Road in Southampton for a moderately-paced hike with views of Wolf Swamp and Big Fresh Pond.

Sat.,Oct.30 - Long Pond Greenbelt Horseback Ride. 10AM-Noon. BYO Horse. Meet on Narrow Lane south of Haines Path in Bridgehampton. Leisurely ride with views of Long Pond, Little Long Pond, and Crooked Pond.  Leader: Dai Dayton, 631-537-0660.

 

Sun.,Oct.31 – Sag Harbor Haunted House Tour. 2PM-4PM.  Meet at the windmill on Long Wharf.  Learn about Sag Harbor’s haunted past.
