Natural Connection”. 10AM. Meet in the parking area

Moderately paced hilly hike. National Trails Day, a
celebration with thousands of events nationwide was
created to:
Promote Public awareness of, and appreciation for
America’s trails and the people who build and maintain
them.
Build partnerships among trail groups, businesses, and
public land managers.
Broaden the constituency for trails. Encourage
cooperative efforts among different trail users,
including hikers, bicyclists, equestrians, walkers,
runners and others.
STPS,
in celebration of National Trails Day, has organized an
eight-mile hike from Trout Pond to the Bridgehampton
Moraine including Whiskey Hill, Mulvihill Preserve and
sections of the Paumanok Path. The route will take
hikers through Trout Pond Town Park to a new Town Trail
Easement circumnavigating Golf at the Bridge, the former
Bridgehampton Race Track, where hikers can view some of
the prominent turns and straight-a-ways of the former
track. Continuing south along a newly acquired town
parcel and west along the Middle Line Highway trail
easement, hikers will pass historic burial sites and
listen to commentary from noted society member Tony
Garro. We will then move into the Whiskey Hill Trail
loop, where a snack and beverage will be served.
Independently, hikers can walk to the top of the Long
Island Glacial Moraine, aka, Whiskey Hill, for views of
the Long Pond Greenbelt, the
Scuttlehole
Farm
Basin,
Mecox Bay and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Continuing on,
the group will enter the newly acquired Mulvihill
Preserve on Brick Kiln Road and head north to Mulvihill
Pond and the secret White Pine forest. Hikers will pass
through oak, hickory and beech forests along wetlands,
running streams, and vernal ponds. After leaving the
Preserve, hikers will head west on the Paumanok Path,
and back along a section of the outbound route to Trout
Pond. The entire hike with break and other stops should
take approximately five hours. Hikers are requested to
bring plenty of water and wear appropriate clothing.
Please join us on National Trails Day! With your
participation and support we can continue to work with
the Town of Southampton to preserve the beautiful trails
and open space in our community.
