Saturday January 6 - Aerobic Hike - Big Woods and Beyond , Eastern Southampton
10:00 AM – 2:00 PM energetic 8 -10 miles.  Bring water and snack. 

We will see how far we can travel in an hour and forty-five minutes.  Follow the Paumanok Path east, find a nice place to sit and have a snack, and then return.  Meet at Nature Conservancy's Marguerite Crabbe Greef Wildlife Sanctuary at Big Woods (opposite Big Fresh Pond Road on Millstone Brook Road). 
Directions: Follow North Sea Road past Big Fresh Pond and turn left onto Millstone Brook Road.

Head north on Magee Street.  Pass Tuckahoe School on your right.  Cross over Sebonac Road, continue on North Magee Street until you reach a five–way intersection.  Make a right turn onto Millstone Brook Road.  After you travel a short distance, you will find on the left side of the road the Nature Conservancy’s Marguerite Crabbe Greef Wildlife Sanctuary at Big Woods.  There is a small parking area at the entrance.  If it is full we can park on the other side of the road (not in front of private property, please) or at the triangle formed by Millstone Brook Road and Scott Street.

Sunday, January 14 – Indian Island Morning Stroll.

10:00 AM-Noon – easy – flat 2 – 3 miles.

Meet at the Indian Island County Park entrance off C.R. 105 in Riverhead for a 2-3 mile walk with beautiful woods and water views.

Joint hike with Long Island Greenbelt Trails Conference.

Directions: LIE to the end (Exit 73), follow Old Country Road (Route 58) east to Cross-River Drive (Route 105) head south to park.

Saturday, January 20 – Hubbard Creek’s Haunted Forest and Black Duck Lodge Ramble.

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM - easy 5-6 miles.

Meet at Red Creek Park on Jackson Avenue in Hampton Bays. 

See Penny Pond.

Directions: From Sunrise Highway Exit 65, take Jackson Ave. south, make a right on Old Riverhead Road, pass the entrance to Southampton Town Police, make the next left.  Follow the park road past the picnic areas and enter the parking field on your right.  Heading east on Route 24 take Old Riverhead Road over Jackson Ave.

Sunday, January 21 – Laurel Valley County Park.

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM - hilly 3-4 miles.

148 acre parcel of wooded knolls and laurel-filled ravines in the Noyac area.  Meet at the kiosk on Deerfield Road opposite the Deerwood Path entrance to North Side Hills. 
Beautiful views of Robins Island and Peconic Bay.  Explore a mildly rolling terrain and experience a variety of plant and animal life.  If you have never walked through a laurel woods, this is an experience you should not miss.

Directions: It is on Deerfield Road just south of Noyac Road.  From Montauk Highway, you travel north from Watermill approx. 5 miles on Deerfield Road, on right opposite North Side Hills entrance.

There is room for several cars to park on the shoulder of the road.

Saturday, January - 27 DEC Sarnoff Pine Barrens Preserve to the County Parklands of Hampton Hills.

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM - the terrain is hilly and the pace will be moderate.  6 - 7 challenging miles.

Meet at the entrance to Sarnoff Preserve on Route 104 in Riverhead.  Hike on one of the nicest sections of the Paumanok Path, it has well-executed switchbacks with inspiring panoramic views.  You walk on a spongy leaf layer that protects the root systems under foot and your knees and ankles above.  We will stop at Wildwood Lake for a snack; bring food and liquid.

Directions: Take Route 104 two miles south of the Riverhead traffic circle DEC parking lot on the right side of the road (west side).  North of Route 105.

Sunday, January 28 – Long Pond Greenbelt. 

Noon – 2:00 PM easy 3 - 4 mile walk.

Meet at the entrance to Poxabogue County Park on in Bridgehampton.

Views of Crooked Pond, Long Pond and Little Long Pond.  An excellent nature walk for winter waterfowl watching.

Directions: Travelling east on Montauk Highway, proceed through the town of Bridgehampton, then cross Bridgehampton Sagharbor Turnpike.  After a little more than a mile, head north (right) on Crooked Lane.  Turn right onto Old Farm Road to parking area on the left.
