Long
Pond Greenbelt
Nature Center
Lecture Series
MEDIA ADVISORY
|
Please
be advised that the fourth of our annual summer lectures series will
take place on Monday August 18, 2008 from 6:00 P.M.– 7:00 P.M. at
the Town of Southampton’s
Long
Pond
Greenbelt
Nature
Center (formerly known as the
Schaffner House located at
1061Bridgehampton-Sag
Harbor Turnpike,
Bridgehampton).
Eric Woodward will
show images from his historic postcard collection. Most of the
cards show scenes of Southampton and surrounding areas from 1905 to 1935.
Many show local buildings, houses and street scenes, but Eric will
also include cards showing local scenery and outdoor lifestyles, for
example ranging from gathering Holly in Amagansett to harvesting
cranberries in Riverhead. Also, summertime would not be
complete without a good dose of beach and bathing scenes.
"It's remarkable the depth of information about local life contained
on these early cards, information not easily available
elsewhere,” says Eric.
This
event is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt and
is open to the public.
We can accommodate 25 people.
Parking is limited and may require a short walk along a dirt
drive. This building is
not handicap accessible.
Anyone with questions regarding this meeting can call
Laura Smith, Principal Environmental Analyst with
the Town of Southampton Community Preservation Department at
631-287-5720.
